Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are no reliable short-term fish toxicity data available for chlorodimethyl(vinyl)silane (CAS 1719-58-0). In water, chlorodimethyl(vinyl)silane hydrolyses very rapidly to dimethyl(vinyl)silanol, therefore good quality data for an appropriate structural analogue of this silanol, trimethylsilanol (CAS 1066-40-6), have been read across. The other hydrolysis product is hydrogen chloride.

A 96-hour LC50 value of 271 mg/l and a NOEC of 128 mg/l have been determined for the effects of trimethylsilanol on mortality of Oncorhynchus mykiss based on mean measured concentrations.

The potential for toxicity caused by the vinyl group has also been considered. Data for trimethoxyvinylsilane (CAS 2768-02-7) indicate that the vinyl fraction of the registered substance is of very low short-term toxicity to freshwater fish (96-h LC50 191 mg/l).

Refer to the discussion in the Section 6 endpoint summary for further discussion of the approach to chemical safety assessment for this registration substance, and justification for read-across used.
