Results and discussion

Water solubility
Water solubility:
< 6.8 mg/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 7 - <= 7.1
Remarks on result:
other: the water solubility was estimated to be below the limit of quantification
Details on results:
- Calibration range: 1 to 20 mg carbon/L pure water in the case of TC-calibration; 1 to 20 mg carbon/L pure water in the case of IC-calibration.
- Linearity of response: Correlation of peak area of different standard solutions with their corresponding concentrations, using a linear regression.
- Regression coefficient (r²): At least 0.999 in the case of TC; at least 0.998 in the case of IC
- Typical calibration curve: y = 4.278* x + 2.2242 in the case of TC; y = 4.232* x – 0.239 in the case of IC
- LOD TC: 0.900 mg carbon/L
- LOD IC: 1.392 mg carbon/L
- LOQ TC: 3.149 mg carbon/L
- LOQ IC: 4.772 mg carbon/L

The limit of quantification TOC (LOQ TOC) was determined as the lowest fortification level at which acceptable mean recovery (70 to 110% of nominal) with a relative standard deviation (RSD) <20% was obtained. The fortified samples were prepared with TC standard solutions in an additional TOC-analysis.

- LOQ TOC: 5 mg carbon/L
- Mean recovery in the fortified samples: 96 % (n = 9, RSD 1 %)

The water solubility of the test item was estimated to be below the limit of quatification of the analytical method.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The water solubility of fully hydrogenated coconut oil was estimated to be below the limit of quantification of the analytical method and was determined to be < 6.8 mg/L at 20 ± 2 °C.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of fully hydrogenated coconut oil was determined using the coloumn elution method according to OECD Guideline 105 and EU Method A.6 with GLP compliance.

The test flasks, containing carrier material loaded with the test item solution, fully hydrogenated coconut + tetrahydrofuran (which was later removed by rotary evaporator), were stored in darkness at ambient temperature until the test was started. The carrier material was later poured into a coloumn (together with distilled water) which was connected to a pump. In the first experiment the coloumn flow was adjusted to 0.4 mL/min and in the second experiment the flow rate was adjusted to 0.2 mL/min.

The saturation concentration was estimated using the TOC-method.

The water solubility of fully hydrogenated coconut oil was estimated to be below the limit of quantification of the analytical method and was determined to be < 6.8 mg/L at 20 ± 2 °C.
