Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a granulometry study three different types of rice husk ashes were tested. In the test substance type 1 (fine), the fraction <100 µm was 100% (w/w). The percentage <100 µm in test substance 2 was 28.7% (w/w) and and in test substance 3 23.2% ( w/w) respectively. The mass median diameter of the fraction <100 µm was 1.0 µm in test substance 1, 51.6 µm in test substance 2 and 48.0 µm in test substance 3 (Currenta, 2009).

Additional information

The percentage of the crystalline particles in the relevant fraction for respiration (<5 µm) was calculated. It ranged from 0.99% (test substance 1) to 8.0% (test substance 2). This means that - depending on the outcome of the granulometry/crystallinity study, different types of rice husk ashes may be differently classified according to T, R48/23 or Xn, R48/23 or not classified (see chapter classification and labelling).
