Additional information

The water solubility of the substance was experimentally determined with column elution method according to EU Method A.6. The determination was done via sorbitan monolaurate as representative of the main compound in the test item. Further compounds are carbon hydrates (well water soluble) and sorbitan di- and trilaurate.

The result reflects the limit of determination (LOD) of the analytical method (sample preparation and analysis with GC-MSD) of 3.3 mg/L.

In addition QSAR calculations were performed with WSKOWWIN for the main components of the substance (C12 monoester, C12 diester and C18 monoester). Results for the C12 monoester component show a high water solubility (13.19 mg/L at 25 °C), for the C18 monoester and the C12 diester components the water solubility decreases significantly (0.012 mg/L and 0.00001 mg/L respectively). The QSAR results support the statement of the experimental study that C12 monoester is the most soluble ester component of the substance. Other compounds like carbohydrates are well soluble whereas the di- and triester compounds are less soluble.
