Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
21 March 1990 to 14 January1991
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 107 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), Shake Flask Method)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.8 (Partition Coefficient)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
shake-flask method to: flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Product designation: Monoazo Yellow BG 3247
Identification: FAT 40400/A BG 3247/TV 6
Analytical method:
photometric method
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
ca. -10
Remarks on result:
other: Calculated value
Details on results:
The preliminary experiment gave the following concentrations: octanol < 8E-8 mol/L and water 3.7E-4 mol/L, yielding a log P<-3.67. This value showed that the expected Pow lies outside the range of the flask shaking method and must be estimated by the calculation method.
Conclusions:
The calculated partition coefficient (log Pow) of FAT 40400/A between n-octanol and aqueous phase is ca. -10.
Executive summary:

In a GLP-compliant study, performed according to the OECD guideline 107, the shaking flask method was used to determine the partition coefficient of the test substance between n-octanol and aqueous phase. However, it was shown that the Pow could not be determined and had to be estimated by using the calculation method described in OECD guideline 117. So, based on the study results, the calculated partition coefficient (log Pow) of the test substance was estimated to be ca. -10.

Description of key information

In a GLP-compliant study, performed according to the OECD guideline 107, the shaking flask method was used to determine the partition coefficient of the test substance between n-octanol and aqueous phase. However, it was shown that the Pow could not be determined and had to be estimated by using the calculation method described in OECD guideline 117. So, based on the study results, the calculated partition coefficient(log Pow)of the test substance was estimated to be ca. -10.
