Reference
Endpoint:
storage stability and reactivity towards container material
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP Compliance
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Evaluations of the percent of glycolic acid and methyl glycolate before and after 14 days at 54°C were conducted. The packaging material (HDPE) was also examined for signs of reactivity with the test substance.
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
accelerated testing
Results:
Glycolic acid showed no signs of reactivity towards HDPE packaging.
Storage stability / reactivity towards container material:
other: No reactivity towards HDPE packaging.

% Glycolic Acid (corrected for Methyl Glycolate)

  Interval Replicate 1 Replicate 2 Replicate 3
Initial   71.6  70.8  71.2
After 14 days at 54°C 66.2  67.6  66.9
Conclusions:
Glycolic acid showed no signs of reactivity towards HDPE packaging.
Executive summary:

Glycolic acid showed no signs of reactivity towards HDPE packaging.

Description of key information
