Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The category member fatty acids, C16-18, C12-18-alkyl esters (CAS: 95912-87-1) is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria. Based on the category approach it can be concluded that all category members of the Long Chain Alcohol Esters are readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The biodegradability of the category member fatty acids, C16-18, C12-18-alkyl esters (CAS: 95912-87-1) was tested. The study was performed according to the EU Method C.4 -D. Effluent from a domestic sewage treatment plant was used as inoculum (100 mL/L culture solution) and one concentration of the test substance (100 mg/L based on the COD) was tested. Boerner (1999) observed a degradation of 87% after 28 days. The 10-day window was met and therefore the test substance is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria. Based on the results and considering the category approach it can concluded, that all category members of the Long Chain Alcohol Esters are readily biodegradable.
