Reliable proprietary studies for the isomer 2-methylbut-2-ene (CAS 513-35-9) on the acute freshwater toxicity of the three trophic levels (fish, daphnia and algae) and toxicity towards microorganism were identified. No reliable data were identified in the published literature. Since isoamylene (2-methylbutene, CAS 26760-64-5) is a mixture of the two isomers, 2-methylbut-2-ene (CAS 513-35-9) and 2-methylbut-1-ene (CAS 563-46-2) and in the absence of any reliable data for isoamylene the data for the isomer (CAS 513-35-9) are considered suitable for read-across

The studies were conducted to standard guidelines and according to GLP and so are considered fully reliable for use as key studies. Algae were found to be less sensitive than either invertebrates or fish which had similar sensitivity to the test substances (EC50 3.84 mg/l and LC50 4.99 mg/l respectively). The substance was not toxic to microorganisms at a concentration of 2.1 mg/l.
