Additional information

One ready biodegradation study is available for Sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS No. 91844-53-0).

This key study was carried out with Sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS No. 91844-53-0), following the OECD Guideline 301 F and according to GLP (Ley, 2005). A mixed inoculum containing microorganisms from sewage plants, from natural waters and from air was used. During the 28-day test period, biodegradation reached 89%, based on O2 consumption, and the 10-day window criterion was fulfilled.

The supporting anaerobic degradation study was performed according to OECD Guideline 311 and GLP (Flach, 2009). Digested sludge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant was used as inoculum. After the 61 days test period 83% biodegradation was observed.

In conclusion, Sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS No. 91844-53-0) can be considered readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
