Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Behenyl Bottoms, characterized as alcohol C18-22, distillation residues (CAS No. 1160164-88-4) were assessed for ready biodegradability in a reliable (Klimisch 1), GLP compliant OECD Guideline 301B (Ready Biodegradability: CO2 Evolution Test) and determined to be inherently biodegradable.
This result is used in a read-across approch for alcohols, C12 -16, distn. residues.

Additional information

Behenyl Bottoms, characterized as alcohol C18-22, distillation residues (CAS No. 1160164-88-4) were assessed for ready biodegradability in a reliable (Klimisch 1), GLP compliant OECD Guideline 301B (Ready Biodegradability: CO2 Evolution Test). The test substance biodegraded to an extent of 84.1% after 60 days with an unacclimated sewage sludge inoculum. The test substance did not reach the criteria for ready biodegradability (60% degradation within a 28-day window). Consequently Behenyl Bottoms were determined to be inherently biodegradable.

This result is used in a read-across approach in the REACH registration of the analogue substance alcohols, C12-18, distn. residues. For details please refer to the read-across report.
