Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There is no aquatic algae toxicity test for "Reaction products of 3-methylbutanal and 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ol, distillation overheads, acid-treated, hydrogenated" available. Thus, the hazard assessment is based on both main components of the Reaction products. For 2H-Pyran, tetrahydro-4-methyl-2-(2-methylpropyl)- (CAS 13477-62-8; 30-80% of the Reaction product) a study of a analog substance (CAS 16409-43-1) has been used. The toxicity of this analog towards Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was investigated according to OECD Guideline 201 under GLP conditions (BASF 2013). The calculated 72h-EC50 was 79.7 mg/l (nominal).

The toxicity of the second main component 2H-pyran-4 -ol (CAS 63500-71-0; 10 -60% of reaction product) to algae was determined in a guideline study in compliance with OECD guideline 201. The growth rate of the algae species Desmodesmus subspicatus was investigated. At test termination after 72 hours an EC50 >94 mg/l was detected (Unilever Reserach UK, 1996).

Based on the assessment of both main components, the toxicity to aquatic algae of "Reaction products of 3-methylbutanal and 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ol, distillation overheads, acid-treated, hydrogenated" is considered to be 79.7 mg/L as a worst-case assumption.
