Additional information

The position of the Enzyme consortium (Enzymes REACH Consortium, 2010) stated that:

_ Flammability in contact with water: enzymes are easily soluble in water and from experience of handling enzymes together with consideration of the structure it can be concluded that enzymes are not flammable on contact with water.

_ Pyrophoricity: as enzymes are proteins produced by fermentations or extracted for subsequent uses (i.e. usually in solution or in salt form), they are not pyrophoric. In the pure, lyophilized form, they might be pyrophoric, but will in such case only exist in very small quantities for research purpose.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC1272/2008), lysozyme hydrochloride s not classified as flammable.
