2-Methylvaleric acid, an alpha-substituted acid, undergoes ß-oxidation in the longer branched-chain followed by cleavage to yield two propionyl CoA fragments. In rabbits, 2-methylvaleric acid is converted to propionyl CoA which is completely metabolised (Deuel, 1957).
