Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
The analytical verification of the test item concentrations was carried out after 0 and 48 hours. For stability control a series of the concentrations
tested, was made up in the same way as the concentrations for biological part, but in separate vessels without test organisms.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
Stock solution: For the preparation of a stock solution, 10 g/L of the test item was equilibrated in completely desalted water. The resulting solution
was used as stock solution.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
Name: Daphnia magna Straus, clone 5
Origin: The water flea Daphnia magna Strauss used is that of clone 5. Originally, the animals were received 1991 from Dr. N. Caspers (Bayer AG,
Leverkusen, Germany); subsequently they were bred in house. The operating steps necessary to breed the animals are given in a Standard
OperatingProcedure.
Culture conditions: For breeding, the females are maintained in M4 medium in 1 L beakers. The daily amount of food, comprising Desmodesmus
subspicatus, is such that the amount added is consumed by the animals. A reddish dark-brown coloration of the animals indicates that they are
healthy. At two to three day intervals, the exuviae are syphoned off and the water is changed. ln the course of this, the offspring is removed from thebreeding vessels. At regular intervals of approximately 4 weeks, offspring is isolated from the vessels. They serve as a basis for further breeding.
The culture conditions ensure parthenogenetic reproduction.

Details on results:
The highest concentration tested in this experiment at which after 48 h exposure no immobilisation (<=10%) occurred, was 1000 mg/L.
The lowest concentration tested in this experiment at which after 48 h exposure 100 % immobilisation occurred, was >1000 mg/L.
Results with reference substance (positive control):
Daphnia magna. lnfluence of potassium dichromate on the swimming behaviour after 24 h exposure.
concentration (mg/ L) % of immobilised Daphnia
1.0 20
2.0 100
The results demonstrate that the sensitivity of the individuals lies in the normal range.
