Reference substance:
Boundary composition_ortho-phthalaldehyde
Name:
Legal entity composition_ortho-phthalaldehyde
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
Legal entity composition_ortho-phthalaldehyde
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Ortho-phthalaldehyde is not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the CO2 evolution test according to OECD 301B. Higher-tier degradation studies are neither available nor necessary. Therefore, persistence cannot be conclusively assessed.

Ortho-phthalaldehyde has a log Pow of 0.99, determined in a study according to OECD guideline 117, hence lacks any bioaccumulation potential.

Daphnia magna was identified as the most sensitive organism in the tests for aquatic toxicity with a 48-h EC50 of 0.11 mg/L. Since the EC50 value is above 0.01 mg/L, the substance is not considered to fulfil the toxicity criterion T.

Furthermore, the substance is neither classified as carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B) or toxic for reproduction (category 1A or 1B, or 2) nor is there other evidence of chronic toxicity, as identified by the classifications "STOT RE 1, or STOT RE 2" according to CLP Regulation.
