The toxicity of the substance to fish was evaluated concerning data from two short-term studies on the substance.
In the key study performed according to EPA OPPTS 850.1075 and in GLP compliance, Oncorhynchus mykiss were exposed to 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 (5.77, 16.61, 23.32, 43.00 and 89.27) mg a.i./l for 96 hours under semi-static conditions. Three replicates of ten organisms were treated with each concentration of the test substance. Dose concentration analysis was performed. Dissolved oxygen, temperature, conductivity and pH measurements were recorded at dosing and daily through study termination. At 0, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours within ± 1 hour after treatment, each container was examined for mortality and the number of live fish was recorded.

In the supporting study performed according to EPA OPPTS 850.1075 and OECD Guideline 203 and in GLP compliance, groups of 10 Oncorhynchus mykiss (3 replicates) were exposed to six different concentrations, i.e. 25, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 mg/l, of test substance dissolved in moderately hard synthetic fresh water. Observations were made on the number of dead fish after 96 h of exposure. No dose verification was performed. At 3, 6, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hrs following dosing, each aquarium was checked for mortality and no. of live fishes.

The value chosen as key for the chemical safety assessment is the lowest effect level, i.e. the worst case scenario, and is based on measured and not nominal concentrations. In any case, the effect levels obtained in both studies are comparable.
