Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Studies of the terrestrial toxicity of zinc neodecanoate, basic are not available. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble zinc substances and neodecanoic acid is applied for the assessment of zinc neodecanoate, basic since the ions of zinc neodecanoate, basic determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble zinc substances and neodecanoate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are zinc cations.

Regarding the toxicity of zinc ions to terrestrial organisms, high-quality NOEC/EC10 values are available covering soil macroorganisms, arthropods, plants, and microorganisms and ranging from14.6 mg Zn/kg dw for arthropods (Folsomia candida) to 5855 mg Zn/kg dw for plants (Triticum aestivum).

Neodecanoate is mobile and does not have a high potential to partition into soil. Data on the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms, algae and invertebrates point to a low (if any) toxic potential. The QSAR based estimation for toxicity of neodecanoic acid (CAS 26896-20-8) to earthworms performed with ECOSAR v1.11 (EPISuite v4.00) results in a 14-d LC50 of 1934 mg neodecanoic acid/L, indicating that the toxicity towards terrestrial invertebrates is low. Based on the low hazard potential of neodecanoate in the aquatic compartment and the low potential to adsorb to soil, a low toxic potential may be assumed for soil organisms, including soil invertebrates, terrestrial plants and soil microorganisms.
