Short-term toxicity tests are available for three trophic levels (fish, invertebrates and plant) on analogue substance 2. The 96-hour LC50 in rainbow trout is 3.7 mg/L, the 48-hour EC50 for immobilization of Daphnia magna is greater than 24.1 mg/L. The 7-day ErC50 in Duckweed (Lemna gibba) was found be equal to 12.3 mg/L.

Table 4.1.0 of the Regulation 1272/2008 states that a substance is considered classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment in:

Category 2 Chronic if 96h,LC50 for fish and/or 48h,EC50 for crustacea and/or 72 -96h Er50 for algae or other aquatic plants are >1 and < 10 mg/l and the substance is not rapidly biodegradable.

Based on the results of the acute fish toxicity, on biodegradation and the read across considerations Acid Orange 144 is classified as Chronic 2 H411: Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
