Conclusion on classification

Environmental classification is assessed based on the lowest acute and chronic values from ecotoxicity tests. For this substance, values are read across from tetraammineplatinum(2+) hydrogencarbonate and platinum(2+) tetraammine diacetate. For classification purposes, these values have been expressed as concentrations of tetraammineplatinum dinitrate, converted based on molecular weight.

The lowest acute value is a 48-hour EC50 of 7.6 mg Pt L-1 for aquatic invertebrates (mobility), from a test conducted with the read across substance tetraammineplatinum(2+) hydrogencarbonate. The only chronic data available are for algae, with the lowest results taken from a test with the read across substance platinum(2+) tetraammine diacetate, with an EC10 of 1.41 mg Pt L-1.

This results in an EC50 of 15.09 mg tetraammineplatinum dinitrate L-1 and an EC10 of 2.8 mg tetraammineplatinum dinitrate L- 1.

As the lowest EC50 value is > 1 mg L-1, there is no need to further consider tetraammineplatinum dinitrate in the classification scheme for acute hazard, in accordance with Reg. (EC) No. 1272/2008.

The only chronic data available is for algae, therefore the chronic classification is assessed based on both the acute and chronic data and the worst case classification, based on the acute data, is assigned to the substance. Based on the lowest EC50 > 10 mg L-1 and ≤ 100 mg L-1, a chronic category 3 classification is assigned to tetraammineplatinum dinitrate, as the substance is not rapidly degradable.
