Administrative data

Endpoint:
skin corrosion: in vitro / ex vivo
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a strong acid (pH ≤ 2.0) or base (pH ≥ 11.5) and the available information indicates that it should be classified as skin corrosion (Category 1, 1A, 1B or 1C)
Justification for type of information:
According to Regulation EC No. 1907/2006 (REACH) Annex VII 8.1 column 2, studies for skin corrosion and skin irritation do not need to be conducted because sulfuryl dichloride is classified as corrosive according to 67/548/ EEC Annex I and Annex VI. Sulfuryl dichloride reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. This reaction explains the extremely irritant and corrosive action of the compound on the skin and mucous membranes.
