Five studies (1 key and 4 supporting studies) are available testing the biodegradability of D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, undecyl glycoside (CAS 98283-67-1). All studies are conducted according to OECD guideline criteria and GLP. Results of the key study, conducted according to OECD 301 F with domestic sewage sludge, showed that the substance is readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions. The 10-day window criterion was fulfilled and no toxicity to the microorganisms was observed. Supporting studies revealed that the tested substance is biodegradable both in fresh- and saltwater environments. A slight inhibition (8%) of natural seawater microorganisms by the tested substance was nevertheless observed. A reliable supporting study additionally showed that the substance is biodegradable by anaerobic sewage sludge under anoxic conditions. In conclusion the test item is considered readily biodegradable according to OECD guideline criteria and therefore, further testing of biodegradation in water and sediment and in soils is not required.
