Description of key information

Following an expert assessment of the test material, it was determined that it is not likely to possess explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

A structural examination and an oxygen balance calculation for the test material were performed in accordance with the ‘Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment – Chapter R.7a: Endpoint Specific Guidance’ in order to assess the requirement for further testing of the explosive potential.

The assessment of the structural properties of the test material was awarded a reliability score of 2 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al (1997).

An examination of the structure of the test material reveals that it contains no groups which are known to be associated with explosive properties. The oxygen balance of the test material is calculated as:

-102.41.

This value is greater than -200; therefore a positive result for explosive properties can be predicted.

The test material has no structural alerts for explosivity, and therefore it is concluded that the test material is not potentially explosive.

Based on the oxygen balance value, the test material could be deemed to be potentially explosive; however, the lack of structural alerts indicates that there is no concern for explosivity associated with this substance.

Following an expert assessment of the test material, it was determined that it is not likely to possess explosive properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to explosivity.
