Description of key information

Testing for acute toxicity has been waived according to ANNEX VII and VIII column 2 of the REACH regulation: the available information indicates that the criteria for classification as corrosive for the skin are met.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Although physico-chemical data tend to indicate that PBN1 mixture is a non reactive inert substance and can not be absorbed by skin or airway, a worst case approach has been chosen by considering the relevant data for each constituant of the substance.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC, nickel chloride (CAS No.: 7718 -54 -9) is classified T; R23/25 (toxic by inhalation and if swallowed). As it is present at 4.5% in the mixture, PBN1 mixture should be classified as Xn; R20/22 taking into account the classification criteria of Directive 1999/45/EC or acute toxicity cat. 3 (H301; H331) taking into account the classification criteria of Directive 1272/2008/EC (CLP).
