Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
February 10th, 2015
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test substance is formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long and a preliminary screening test is performed to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smouldering occurs. If propagation over 200 mm of the train occurs within a specified time (less than 4 minutes) then a full test programme to determine the burning rate is carried out.If the substance does not ignite and propagate combustion neither by burning with flame nor by smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 4 minutes test period, then the test substance should not be considered as flammable and no further testing is required.Preliminary test:The test substance was formed into an unbroken strip about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate.A hot flame from a gas burner (with minimum diameter 5 mm) was applied to one end of the powder train. The flame was taken away after 2 minutes. Test substance did not catch fire. Under carbonized surface a red-hot matter glowed. However no propagation of the red-hot zone through the shape of the strip was observed.
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The substance did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes; burning rate test did not need to be performed. The substance is not classified as Flammable.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Non flammable.
Executive summary:

Flammability was assessed by EU Method A.10. described in the Regulation EC n. 440/2008.

The tested substance is not flammable.

Description of key information

Non flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

EU Method A.10

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008, powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 4 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2,2 mm/s.

The test substance did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore it is not classified.
