Description of key information

FAT 21095/D is a black powder, solid at 20 °C. The test substance did not melt or boil until 350 °C. Thermal decomposition is observed starting at about 280 °C. Average density of FAT 21095/D was found to be 1.2203 g/cm³ at 20 °C temperature, with median particle size of 8.357 μm. Vapour pressure was not determined. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.5, this study does not need to be conducted if the melting point is >300 °C. The partition co-efficient n-octanol/water at 20 °C was determined to be: Pow = 1.66; log Pow = 0.22. The water solubility at 20 °C was determined to be 1.7 g/l. The surface tension was determined to be 60.57 mN/m at 20 °C. The test substance is a solid, thus the flash point of FAT 21095/D was not determined. In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.9, this study does not need to be conducted based on the physical state of the substance. According to ECHA guidance, flash point is only relevant to substances that are liquid at room temperature. FAT 21095/D showed no auto-ignition until 550 °C and the substance is considered to be not highly flammable and does not ignite spontaneously when in contact with water or humid air. The test item should be considered as not highly flammable. The analysis of the chemical structure reveals no alerts for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is above the trigger value of -200, but the determination of the exothermic decomposition energy demonstrated an energy release below the critical value of 500 J/g. Therefore the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing are required. The oxygen balance of FAT 21095/D was calculated to be -141.54. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, this study does not need to be conducted as this substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of its chemical structure.
