Additional information

An OECD 201 algal inhibition test was conducted with the test substance sodium isobutyrate solution. The test was static with a test period of 72 hours. Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata cultures were exposed to the test substance at nominal test concentrations of 8.7, 22.5, 55.4, 138, 346, and 865 mg/L. Six replicates were used for the controls and three for the test solutions. Test vessels were 250 mL glass E-bottles with 100mL of solution, incubated on a shaking-table with approximately 100 µE m-2 s-1 continuous illumination and a temperature of 21-24 ±2oC. The total incubation period was 72 hours with sampling at 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours.

The 72-hour NOEC for growth rate was determined to be 8.7 mg/L, while the ErC50 was determined to be 740 mg/L.
