Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex X, long-term toxicity tests to sediment organisms (required in section 9.5.1) do not need to be conducted as the substance is considered not critical with regard to sediment toxicity. The substance is expected to have a low adsorption potential (calculated Koc = 0.012, Kow method, KOCWIN v2.00). Together with the high water solubility of FeNaEDDHA (~ 200 g/L) the substance is expected to be very mobile in the aqueous phase and will not adsorb to sediment and soil. According to its physico-chemical properties FeNaEDDHA (very low Pow and high water solubility) is not expected to be distributed into sediment and no exposure of sediment dwelling organisms is expected.

In view of the expected negligible adsorption of FeNaEDDHA to sediment it can be assumed that in such tests the exposure through sediment pore water does not differ significantly from that to FeNaEDDHA in the overlaying water and that hazards resulting from uptake of sediment can be excluded. Therefore, no further testing of long-term toxicity to sediment organisms is needed.
