Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Mutagenicity in bacteria:

The mutagenic potential of Molybdenum nickel tetraoxide was determined in the Ames test using five genetically manipulated Salmonella typhimurium strains (TA 97a, TA 98, TA100, TA 102 and TA1535) with and without metabolic activation according to OECD Guideline 471 and EU B.13/14. None of the concentrations caused a significant increase in the number of revertant colonies in the tested strains using the plate incorporation and the pre-incubation method (Paulus, 2010).

Short description of key information:
in vitro:
- mutagenicity in bacteria:
Ames, S. typhimurium TA 97a, TA 98, TA 100, TA 102, TA 1535, +/- S9, plate incubation and pre-incubation method: negative (Paulus, 2010)

Moreover, there are various in vitro and in vivo cytogenicity studies available demonstrating a genotoxic potential of soluble Nickel compounds.

Endpoint Conclusion:

Justification for classification or non-classification

Molybdenum nickel tetraoxide is classified as Muta. Cat. 3; R68 “Possible risk of irreversible effects" and as Muta 2 "May cause genetic defects” according to the criteria of Directives 67/548/EEC (DSD) and 1272/2008/EC (CLP).
