Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

This endpoint is waived as it is scientifically not necessary to conduct a study on bioaccumulation based on substance properties. As sodium azide is inorganic no log Kow, BCF or biodegradability was determined. Two review papers on sodium azide are available that discuss the behaviour of sodium azide in water (Betterton 2003 and Ellenhorn 1997). Both of these studies suggest that sodium azide is highly soluble in water, and once dissolved will form hydrazoic acid, which is the corresponding acid in an acid-base equilibrium. Therefore, sodium acid is not expected to bioaccumulate.
