First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:- General information: Immediately remove any clothing soiled by the product.- After inhalation: Supply fresh air; consult doctor in case of complaints.- After skin contact: Immediately wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly.- After eye contact: Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.- After swallowing: Call for a doctor immediately.Information for doctor:- Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:- Eyes: Dust may irritate eyes mechanically.- Hazards and systemic effects: No specific hazards known.- Possible routes of intake: Intake by swallowing or inhalation of dust.- Chronic effects: No chronic effects known.- Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: Symptomatic treatment. No specific antidot.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media- Suitable extinguishing agents: Use fire extinguishing methods suitable to surrounding conditions. CO2, powder or water spray. Fight larger fires with water spray or alcohol resistant foam.Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Formation of explosive dust/air-mixtures is possible. In case of fire, the following can be released: Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Carbon monoxide (CO), Advice for firefighters- Protective equipment: Wear self-contained respiratory protective device. Chemical resistant protective suit. Under the protective suit a fire protective suit according to EN 469 should be applied.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Wear protective equipment. Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid formation of dust. Use respiratory protective device against the effects of fumes/dust/aerosol. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not breathe dust. Avoid spillage of product into the environment. Access only for trained personnel with personal protective equipment.- Environmental precautions: Do not allow to enter sewers/ surface or ground water. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Keep contaminated washing water and dispose of appropriately.- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Dispose contaminated material as waste according to Disposal Consideration, see below. Pick up mechanically. If formation of dust cannot be avoided use respiratory filter device. Possible formation of explosive dust/air mixtures.- Reference to other sections: Formation of explosive dust/air-mixtures is possible. Discharge into waste water channels and biological treatment plants only after clearence with the operating company and in accordance with local Authority approval.

Handling and storage

Handling- Precautions for safe handling: Nitrogen blanketing required for large scale operations with this compound due to low minimum ignition energy. Keep containers tightly sealed. Fill only in dedicated and assigned containers.- Information about fire - and explosion protection: Dust can combine with air to form an explosive mixture. The product is not flammable. Very high danger of dust explosions.Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:- Storage- Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles: No special requirements.- Corrosion of metals: No corroding action on metals (expert statement).- Information about storage in one common storage facility: Store away from oxidizing agents.- Further information about storage conditions: Protect from heat and direct sunlight.- Maximum storage temperature: No data available.- Recommended storage temperature: Currently no data available. It is therefore recommended not to exceed room temperature (max. 25°C) during storage over a longer period of time.- Acceptable storage time: No data available.

Exposure controls / personal protection

- Additional information about design of technical facilities: Take care of sufficient ventilation. Avoid formation of dust.- Control parameters- Ingredients with limit values that require monitoring at the workplace: Not required.- DNEL/PNEC-values: See section 7.- AEGL: Not listed.- IDLH: Not listed- ERPG: Not listed. TEEL: Not listed.- Additional information: The lists valid during the making were used as basis.Exposure controls:- Personal protective equipment- General protective and hygienic measures: The usual precautionary measures are to be adhered to when handling chemicals.- Respiratory protection: Use respiratory protective device in case of formation of dust.- Protection of hands: Protective gloves. Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation- Penetration time of glove material: Indicated figures for time are recorded at 22°C and long-lasting contact. Increased temperatures caused by warm substances, body heat etc. and a reduction of thickness by extension of material may result in a decreased penetration time. A 1,5-fold increased/decreased thickness doubles/halves the penetration time. Figures are valid only for pure substances. Transfer to mixtures of substances is valid only as qualitative information- For the permanent contact gloves made of the following materials are suitable: The following materials are known from experience to be suitable for protection against undissolved solids: rubber. Check for tightness before use. Replace damaged gloves.- Eye protection: Safety glasses- Body protection: Use dust-proof protective suit.- Protection against thermal hazards: No specific measures required.- Limitation and supervision of exposure into the environment: Avoid spillage of product into the environment. If possible use this material only in closed systems and devices. In case of open plant systems (sampling devices, filling and discharging, cleansing works etc.) use local exhaust and collecting trays. Follow emission limit values. Measures in case of unwanted emissions should be established.- Risk management measures: General protective and hygienic measures have to be observed. Handling and use of this material/formulation only under controlled conditions in closed systems. Employees who us e this material/formulation must be trained and demonstrably instructed about possible risks for man and environment. Measures for prevention of hazards in case of unwanted leakage (LOPC) shall be implemented.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity- Chemical stability- Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided: High risk of dust explosion!- Sensitive to:- Air: Risk of dust explosions.- Temperature: Protect from heat.- Possibility of hazardous reactions: Very high danger of dust explosions. Electrostatic discharge may cause dust explosions.Conditions to avoid: No further relevant information available.- Incompatible materials: Strong oxidizing agents.- Hazardous decomposition products: Nitrogen oxides, Carbon monoxide.

Disposal considerations

- Waste treatment methods- Recommendation: Must be specially treated adhering to official regulations.- European waste catalogue: 07 07 99, wastes not otherwise specified- Uncleaned packaging:- Recommendation: Packagings that may not be cleansed are to be disposed of in the same manner as the product.- Biological waste water treatment: Discharge into waste water channels and biological treatment plants only after clearence with the operating company and in accordance with local Authority approval.
