Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Oncorhynchus mykiss (previous name: Salmo gairdneri)
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Rainbow trout
- Source: Aquatic Research Organisms, Hampton, New Hampshire (eggs were purchased)
- Age at study initiation (mean and range, SD): After hatching, the fish were held in a 272-L, circular, fiberglass holding tank (84-cm diameter, 49-cm deep) for 76 to 84 days in continuously-flowing well water (mean temperature 9.7°C) at Haskell Laboratory
- Feeding frequency during acclimation: fish were fed live brine shrimp (Aquarium Products, Glen Burnie, Maryland) and PurinaÒ Trout ChowÒ (Purina Mills, Inc., St. Louis, Missouri) twice daily on weekdays, and once daily on weekends and holidays
- Health during acclimation (any mortality observed): Sickness, injury, and abnormalities were not present in fish in the holding tank nor in the fish used for testing
