Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No experimental data on Calcium (S)-lactate are available. In aqueous environments Calcium (S)-lactate fully dissociates into Ca2+ ions and lactic acid. Therefore, the environmental fate of Calcium (S)-lactate can be understood in terms of calcium salts and lactic acid. In accordance with regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), Annex VIII, point 9.2.2.1, column 2, a hydrolysis study is not required if the substance is ready biodegradable. Lactic acid is readily biodegradable, which is also applicable to its calcium salt by way of read-across.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

This information is used in a read-across approach in the assessment of the target substance.

For details and justification of read-across please refer to the attached report in IUCLID section 13.
