Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
AMES TEST – Bacterial reverse mutation test on Salmonella typhimurium
Detection of reverse mutations of Salmonella typhimurium strains that revert from histidine dependence (auxotrophy) to histidine independence (prototrophy) in the presence of a mutagenic agent, with or without a metabolizing system.
Only the range-finding test was carried out with the pre-incubation method, using two strains of Salmonella typhimurium: TA98 and TA100.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of assay:
bacterial reverse mutation assay

Interpretation of results (migrated information):
positive

Under the experimental conditions, 4-Chlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride, showed a strong mutagenic activity in the Ames range-finding test with and without S9-mix on both tested strains.
