Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

A hydrolysis study shows that O-(2-ethylhexyl) O,O-tert-pentyl peroxycarbonate

hydrolyses rather fast at environmental realistic temperatures. Half-lives at pH 4, 7 and 9 are 11, 11 and 13 hours at 12 °C, respectively.

A ready biodegradability test is also available. The conclusion from that study is that the substance is readily biodegradable.

From these two findings it can be concluded that it is not persistent.

The log Kow of 5.8 would indicate that bioaccumulation should be determined. But hydrolysis results show that half-lives are on average < 12h at environmental realistic pH levels and temperatures. Hence, the likelihood of bioaccumulation is greatly reduced (REACH guidance document R.7c, section R.7.10.3.4, p. 26) focus should ly on hydrolysis products instead of the parent substance. The registered substance, O-(2 -ethylhexyl) O,O-tert-pentyl peroxycarbonate (CAS No. 70833 -40 -8) degrades to 2-ethylhexanol (CAS 104 -76 -7), tert amyl alcohol (CAS 75 -85 -4), Acetone (CAS 67-64-1) and Ethanol (CAS 64-17-5).

Log Kow values of the main hydrolysis products are 2.9 and 0.77 (ECHA disseminated dossier, 17 Sept. 2018) and therefore bioaccumulation is not expected.

The log Koc value is 3.9, which shows that the adsorption potential of O-(2-ethylhexyl) O,O-tert-pentyl peroxycarbonate

is rather high.
