Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies in fish were performed for the test substance FAT 40045 using methodology similar to OECD TG 203 to evaluate the toxicity potential of the test substance. 96 h LC50 to fish was >1000 mg/L. Whereas aquatic toxicity study in Daphnia magna was performed for a similar substance (which is used here as a read across substance FAT 40336) according to OECD TG 202. 48 h EC50 to daphnids was found to be >100 mg/L. In the key study performed to assess the effect of the test item on the growth of Lemna gibba according to OECD Guideline 221, the nominal EC50-value for yield of dry weight, growth rate of dry weight, yield of frond numbers and growth rate of frond numbers was determined to be >100 mg/L. The nominal EC50-value for yield of dry weight, growth rate of dry weight, yield of frond numbers and growth rate of frond numbers was determined to be >100 mg/L. The overall LOEC was therefore determined to be 0.298 mg/L, the corresponding NOEC could not be observed and is supposed to be below 0.298 mg/L. For microorganisms, studies conducted using sludge from a domestic waste-water treatment plant reported the 3 h IC50 as >400 mg/L. Based on the test data for all the three species (LC50 and EC50: >100 mg/L) FAT 40045 can be classified as 'not toxic' to aquatic organisms.
