Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The vapour pressure is 1.87E-4 Pa at 25 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The key value for vapour pressure is estimated by using a category approach based on the available data the main constituents, C14 Myristic acid (CAS 544-63-8), C16 Palmitic acid (CAS 57-10-3) and C18 Stearic acid (CAS 57-11-4). C14 Myristic acid had the highest vapour pressure of these constituents (see explanation below). In addition an experimental value for Fatty acids, C16-22 was available, however, was not respected due to its value well above the actual vapour pressure (vapour pressure < 1 Pa).

According to the theoretical principle of Raoult’s law, the vapour pressure of a mixture is equal to the mole-fraction-weighted sum of the components' vapour pressures:

ptot= ∑ pixi

The vapour pressure of the mixture should be lower than the vapour pressure of the component which has the highest vapour pressure in its pure form (C14).
