Description of key information

No data available for 4-methoxy-cyclohexanol (Cas: 18068-06-9) but for the analogous substance cyclohexanol (Cas: 108-93-0).

In a well documented human study the substance (cyclohexanol) was assessed to have respiratory tract irritating properties from concentrations of 427 ppm (1.77 mg/ml)

In an experiment preformed with a collective of 72 humans (Four groups; two male groups (younger than 35 and older than 45) and two female groups (younger than 35 and older than 45) the odor threshold and the lateralization threshold (measurement of trigeminal stimulation which can be correctly localized to the stimulated nostril in humans) of cyclohexanol was determined.

In this study the median odor threshold for cyclohexanol was 0.45 ppm (0,002 mg/ml) and the lateralization threshold was 427 ppm (1.77 mg/l).

Treon et al. (Treon, 1943) described a human study in which subjects where exposed to 100 ppm in an exposure chamber for 3 -5 mins. The results are based on the individual description of the subjects. Irritating effects on the eyes, nose and throat were described at the concentration of 100 ppm. No differentation is given if the irritating effects were felt mainly in eyes, nose or throat.
