Description of key information

Two bird toxicity studies (Beavers JB, Corbitt A & Jaber M (1989a) and Beavers JB, Corbitt A & Jaber M (1989b)) were conducted using two different species of bird (Anas platyrhynchos (Mallard) (18 weeks) and Colinus virginianus (Bobwhite) (20 weeks)). Both studies showed that the LD50 and NOEL of Flumetsulam was >600ppm and 600 ppm in diet respectively.
Three additional short-term bird toxicity studies were also available (Grimes J & Jaber M (1988a), Grimes J & Jaber M (1988b) and Grimes J & Jaber M (1988c)) on Colinus virginianus (1 day), Anas platyrhynchos (5 days) and Colinus virginianus (5 days) respectively. These studies gave LD50 values of >2250 mg/L, >5620 ppm in diet and >5620 ppm in diet respectively. Although reliable (Klimisch 1), these studies were not selected as key data as they are short-term studies only conducted over a few days as opposed to the key studies conducted over 18-20 weeks. As such, these three studies are provided as supporting information only.

Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for birds:
600 mg/kg food

Additional information

Both the key studies were conducted to EPA OPP 71-4 (Avian Reproduction Test). Both were performed to GLP standard and considered reliable enough to be key studies. Neither study shows any signs of toxicity to birds.

The shorter term supporting studies confirm the findings of the key studies, also showing no signs of toxicity to birds.
