Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

- Inhalation: Gargle throat. If there is exposure to large amounts of respirable fibres, vacate premises immediately and if necessary seek medical assistance.

- Skin: If there is excessive exposure of skin to fibres, wash with soap and water.

- Eye: Wash immediately with clean water or eye-wash fluid and if necessary seek medical assistance for examination and treatment.

- Ingestion: Have victim rinse mouth with water. If large amounts are swallowed, have victim drink 240 to 300 ml of water. Get medical attention if necessary.

- Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed: Prolonged inhalation of excessive concentration of respirable fibers may cause deposition of quantities of fibers in lungs sufficient to cause a tissue response which could be associated with injury.

- Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: Treat symptoms as they occur.

Fire-fighting measures

- Suitable extinguishing media: Not applicable.

- Unsuitable extinguishing media: Not applicable.

- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Avoid breathing dust.

- Advice for firefighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and appropriate protective equipment.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Avoid any exposure.  Wear necessary protective equipment.

- Environmental precautions: Do not allow to enter drains, sewers or watercourses.  Contact local authorities in case of spillage to drain/aquatic environment.

- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Wash, shovel or sweep and place in solid waste containers.  Avoid dust formation.  Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing.  Use sealed containers for reclamation or disposal in licensed special waste.

Handling and storage

- Precautions for safe handling: Avoid generation and spreading of dust.  If enclosed handling cannot be guaranteed, ventilation, adequate dust mask and protective clothing must be used.   Mechanical ventilation or local exhaust ventilation is recommended.

- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Store in a cool, dry place with adequate ventilation.

Exposure controls / personal protection

> Control parameters

- DNELs, DMELs: Exposure limits vary from 0.25 fibres/ml to 5 fibre/ml while some countries have no established exposure limits. Exposure standards in Australia is 0.5 fibres/ml (TWA, respirable fibres).

Based upon existing research,TOHO MATERIAL CO., LTD. generally recommends that workplace exposure for fibrous dust of TOFIX-S be kept below 1 fibre/ml, except in countries which require lower exposure limits which are specifically set out above.

- PNEC: None.

> Exposure controls

- Engineering controls: Provide adequate ventilation. Observe Occupational Exposure Limits and minimize the risk of inhalation of dust. If enclosed handling cannot be guaranteed, ventilation, adequate dust mask and protective clothing must be used.

- Personal protective equipment: Use respiratory equipment with combination filter, type P3.

Approved, particulate respirator with a minimum of APF 10.

Use approved safety goggles or face shield.

Wear chemical-resistant gloves. Contact glove manufacturer for specific information.

Full protective clothing should be worn when handling this product.

- Environmental exposure controls: Environmental manager must be informed of all major spillages.

Stability and reactivity

- Reactivity: No data available

- Chemical stability: This product is stable in air.

- Possibility of hazardous reactions: No data available.

- Conditions to avoid: high temperature, high moisture

- Incompatible materials: No data available.

- Hazardous decomposition products: No data available.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

- General Information: Dispose of waste and residues in accordance with local authority requirements.

- Disposal Methods: Collect in marked containers and deliver to approved depot.

- Container: Since emptied containers retain product residue, follow label warnings even after container is emptied.
