Additional information

A range of OECD studies have been conducted to assess the toxicity of Fatty acids, C12-18 and C18-unsatd., 2-sulfoethyl esters, sodium salts (CAS Number:85408-62-4) and SLI(76) stripped to fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae.

Unilever_acute fish_AT-RS43 -01(1984) studied the acute toxicity of Fatty acids, C12-18 and C18-unsatd., 2-sulfoethyl esters, sodium salts to Oncorhynchus mykiss over 96 hours in a static system. The reported LC50 of the registered substance after 96 hours exceeded the maximum measured concentration remaining in the test solution (25-30 mg/L).

The acute toxicity of Fatty acids, C12-18 and C18-unsatd., 2-sulfoethyl esters, sodium salts and SLI(76)-stripped toDaphnia magna(OECD 202) was reported in Unilever_acute daphnia_EAD070158 (2008) and Unilever_acute daphnia_AT-RS43 -02 (1984). Reported EC50 (48h) value for total measured concentration was >73 mg/L (Unilever_acute daphnia_AT-RS43 -02, 1984). Unilever_acute daphnia_EAD070158 (2008) reported the dissolved EC50 (48 h) to be >50 mg/L.

The toxicity of SLI(76)-stripped toPseudokirchneriella subcapitata following OECD 201 was reported in Unilever_Algal toxicity_EAL080070 (2009). The EC50-values, based on measured dissolved concentrations, for specific growth rate inhibition (ErC50) and inhibition of yield (EyC50) after 72 h were 4.8 and 1.87 mg/L, respectively. Reported NOEC values were 0.31 mg/L for both biomass and growth (based on measured dissolved concentrations).

The chronic toxicity of SLI(76)-stripped toDaphnia magna(Semi-Static, 21 d; OECD 211) was determined in Unilever_chronic daphnia_ECD080250 (2010). The reported NOEC (21 d) was 0.154 mg/L (dissolved concentration) and 0.192 mg/L (total concentration).

The chronic toxicity of SLI(76)-stripped toPimephales promelas(flow through, 32 d; OECD 211) was determined by Unilever_chronic fish_KLS090107 (2010). The reported NOEC (32 d) was 0.045 mg/L (dissolved concentration) and 0.11 mg/L (total concentration).

The toxicity of SCI was investigated in a study according to OECD Guideline no. 209 according to GLP. The EC50 value is > 1000 mg/L in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test.

Conclusion on classification

Fatty acids, C12 -18 and C18 -unstad., 2 -sulfoethyl esters, sodium salts is not classified for the environment.
