Justification for type of information:
Toxicity testing involving repeated dermal exposure to silver behenate is deemed not to be required. Silver behenate is practically insoluble, and since solubility is a prerequisite for percutaneous absorption of a solid inorganic material, the systemic uptake via the skin can be considered negligible. Even if silver dissolved on skin surfaces in minor amounts, the percutaneous absorption of silver ions is very low and the overall systemic toxicity is also low. Thus, a further assessment of repeated dermal exposure is not required.
