Description of key information

The toxicity to algae was assessed in an Algal growth inhibition test in accordance OECD guideline 201. Algae were exposed to test item at a nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L. The EbC50 was determined to be > 100 mg/L the NOEC was determined to be 100 mg/L.

Additional information

The toxicity to algae was assessed in two separate algal growth inhibition tests in accordance OECD guideline 201.

In the first study (ECT, 2006) algae were exposed for 72 h to test item at one concentration using the water accomodated fraction (WAF) approach. The nomial loading rate was 100 mg/L. This limit test showed no significant differences between the control algae and the exposed algae with respect to growth inhibition. The EC50 or the LOEC (72 h) for growth inhibition was estimated to be higher than the loading rate of 100 mg/L (average measured concentration 0.00094 mg/L, which is considered the average water accomodated fraction under the test conditions used in this test).

In the second study (Bayer, 1999) no inhibition of algal growth in the presence of a weighed-in quantity of 1 mg/L ofthe test item was observed.

The results of both studies demonstrate no toxic effects of the test item at the range of the water solubility.
