Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
24 August 2011 - 17 November 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: This study has been performed according to UN and EC guidelines and in compliance with GLP principles.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
(2008)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN no. ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5: RTDG, Part III, Test N.1: “Test Method for Readily Combustible Solids”, 2009
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
other: no burning or propagation of combustion observed, see details below

In contact with the flame of the gas burner, the test substance melted and turned into a orange/brown residue. White smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test substance was observed.

According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required, because no propagation of combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the pile within 2 or 4 minutes was observed.

Based on the results obtained, the test substance is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Interpretation of results:
other: not highly flammable
Conclusions:
The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of 3,3'-DDS.
No ignition and propagation of combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the pile within 2 or 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test substance is considered 'not highly flammable'.
Executive summary:

3,3'-DDS is considered 'not highly flammable'.
