Description of key information

Hydrolysis product sec-butanol: With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
Hydrolysis product HCl: Acutely very toxic for aquatic invertebrates (pH dependent).

Additional information

There are no data available regarding the toxic effect of the parent compound to aquatic invertebrates. The key study with the hydrolysis product sec-butanol comes from a test with Daphnia magna. The EC50 (48 h) was 4227 mg/L, indicating no harmful effects (OECD, 2002).

The hydrolysis product HCl showed acutely very toxic effects due to low pH: EC50 (48 h) = 0.492 mg/L (OECD, 2002).
