Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

A substance that fulfils all three of the criteria for persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity is a PBT substance according to REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. The substance, Hydrocarbons, C7-C8, n-alkanes, is considered not to be PBT or vPvB on the following basis. The substance is readily biodegradable and, therefore, based on initial persistence screening is not expected to meet the Persistent (P) or very Persistent (vP) criteria. An evaluation of representative hydrocarbon structures indicates no structures meet the Bioaccumulative (B) or very Bioaccumulative (vB) criteria. None of the measured or calculated data for Hydrocarbons, C7-C8, n-alkanes is within the criteria for toxicity stipulated in the ECHA’s Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment - Part C: PBT Assessment (2008). Therefore this substance is not considered toxic (T). The substance also does not warrant classification for carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and reproductive toxicity. See IUCLID Section 13 for a CONCAWE PBT assessment document for hydrocarbons.
