Description of key information

The toxicity to the aquatic environment of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1)was investigated by performing GLP-compliant short-term toxicity studies to algae, fish and aquatic invertebrates. Studies were performed on marine species.

Algae (Skeletonema costatum) was identified as the most sensitive species based on the outcome of the investigation with a 72h EC50 of 427.14 mg/L.

The short-term toxicity of the registered substance to aquatic invertebrates was assessed according to SO 14669 (1999) Water Quality - Determination of acute lethal toxicity to marine copepods (Copepoda; Crustacea). A 48h LC50 of 903.17 mg/L was obtained on Acartia Tonsa.

A limit fish test was performed on Scophthalmus maximus with 96h LC50 >427.14 mg/L

It can be concluded that the registered does not meet the criteria for classification as toxic to the aquatic environment according to according to Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008 on the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures.

In accordance with Annex VIII of REACH, Column 2, activated sludge respiration inhibition testing does not need to be conducted if there is no emission to a sewage treatment plant.
