Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting point solids
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with paragraph R.7.1.9.2., flash point is defined as the lowest temperature of the liquid (as measured in a prescribed manner) at a pressure corrected to 101.325 kPa, at which application of an ignition source causes the vapour of the liquid to ignite momentarily and the flame to propagate across the surface of the liquid under the specified conditions of test. The test item is a powder under atmospheric conditions (OCSPP 830.6303; C Bär (2018)) with a melting point > 300 °C (EU Method A.1.; D. McSherry (2018)).

Further, with a melting point > 160 °C, the test item does not meet the definition of a low melting point solid as defined in Section 2.11.4.2. of ECHA's Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria (Version 5.0 – July 2017).

Description of key information

The study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting point solids.

Additional information

Waiver – In accordance with paragraph R.7.1.9.2. of ECHA's Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment, Chapter R.7a (Version 6.0, July 2017), flash point is defined as the lowest temperature of the liquid (as measured in a prescribed manner) at a pressure corrected to 101.325 kPa, at which application of an ignition source causes the vapour of the liquid to ignite momentarily and the flame to propagate across the surface of the liquid under the specified conditions of test.  The test item is a powder under atmospheric conditions (OCSPP 830.6303; C Bär (2018)) with a mean melting point of > 300 °C (EU Method A.1.; D. McSherry (2018)).

Further, with a melting point > 160 °C, the test item does not meet the definition of a low melting point solid as defined in Section 2.11.4.2. of ECHA's Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria (Version 5.0 – July 2017).
