Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

not flammable
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability is determined based on a weight of evidence approach using available data from two read across substances in the category, which cover the main constituents of fatty acids, C18-22: Fatty acids C16-18 (CAS 67701-03-5) and docosanoic acid (CAS 112-85-6) are not flammable in tests according to EU Method A.10. Therefore it can be concluded that fatty acids, C18-22 is not flammable either.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: two analogue substances, which cover the main constituents of fatty acids, C18 -22 could not be ignited by a gas flame in tests according to EU method A.10.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
