Conclusion on classification

For fish a 96h LC50 value of 1.45 mg/L was concluded based on read across from Decanal. The 48h EC50 value for Daphnia is 1.4 mg/l, whereas the 72h ErC50 for algae is 1.6 mg/L, both derived by read across from Floral Super. Based on the lowest available acute data for Daphnia with an EC50 value of 1.4 mg/L, the substance does not need to be classified for acute aquatic toxicity according to Table 4.1.0 (a) of CLP.

 

As only one chronic value is available (algae), the aquatic chronic classification needs to be derived on both chronic and acute toxicity data and the most stringent outcome needs to be taken into consideration. The lowest chronic available value is the algal ErC10 of 0.45 mg/L. In combination with the substance concluded to be readily biodegradable, this would lead to chronic classification Category Chronic 3 (H412) according to Table 4.1.0 (b) (ii) of CLP. In view of the available acute data for two other trophic levels, invertebrates and fish, the more stringent value for Daphnia (1.4 mg/l) is chosen. Since the daphnid 48h EC50 is 1.4 mg/L, the substance is readily biodegradable and has a log Kow of 4.47, the substance needs to be classified as Category Chronic 2 (H411) according to Figure 4.1.1 and Table 4.1.0 (b) (iii) of CLP.

 

Overall, it can be concluded that Intreleven aldehyde needs to be classified for the environment as Category Chronic 2 (H411) according to EU CLP (EC No. 1272/2008 and its amendments).
