Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

Administrative data

Endpoint:
toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:

Justification for type of information:
According to REACH Regulation Annex XI, a registrant may adapt the standard testing regime laid down in REACH Anneces VII-X in accordance with the general rules set out in Section 1 of this Annex. Following para 2 of Annex XI, testing for a specific endpoint may be omitted, if it is technically not possible to conduct the study as a consequence of specific properties of the specific substance. This implies experimental testing of highly reactive or unstable substances and/or if handling and mixing of the substance may cause danger of fire or explosion. Diazol is a substance exhibiting very high reactivity and explosive properties. According to criteria of EU Commission Regulation (EU) No.286/2011 (CLP), diazol has to be classified as an unstable explosive (H200). Due to these properties of the test item and in accordance with REACH Annex XI, it is not possible to conduct an experimental study on the endpoint 'toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria'.

Moreover, according to REACH Regulation (Annex VII, 9.1.2, column II) the study on the toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria does not need to be done if the substance is only poorly soluble in water. According to the available test results, diazol proved to be only slightly soluble in water. Therefore, an experimental study on this endpoint does not need to be conducted.
